Pai Mei's Exploding Palm technique

[:1]I'm not sure what the current graphic looks like for the Monk's Exploding Palm skill right now but I hope they've revamped it.

Yeah, I wanna revive some dead flak about the graphics of the Exploding Palm when we last saw it at Blizzcon 2010. I actually thought it looked really cool, but what some fans (including myself) drew said flak on was how EVERYTHING exploded in blood and guts- including skeletons!Bashiok rushed to the frontlines saying something along the lines of

'It's the graphic or, magical effect of the skill'.

Right. So what he's saying the skill does from a lore and in-game perspective is that the Monk strike's the monster in a critical spot leaving a DoT; if the monster dies while DoT'd then the skill turns whatever type of monster affected- be it ghost, skeleton or hulking tree- into an exploded blend of blood and guts and magical strawberry shortcake. I guess I could buy it but I don't really want to as it sounds like a lazy corner cut.

I'm just sayin, I really wanna see skeletons explode into mushrooms clouds of gray and brown while giant mosquitos rupture goops of green matter on the ground (and possibly on your char); I wanna see tree bast*rds blast to smithereens, and perhaps have a beautiful cacophony/spectacle of exploding deaths when offing different monster types!

I sure hope they've revamped the magical graphics effect of the skill...|||You could see a recent version of Exploding Palm here @ 4:16 or so, but it might be a runed version(as can be seen with the heart being blue instead of red) so I am not sure if they would change the explosion as well or not.

Anyway.

Bash first and second reply was this:

We have tons of unique death types, the exploding palm effect you're talking about though is an effect of the skill itself though and not the makeup of the creature it's used against.

When you apply the bleed-DoT from Exploding Palm a beating heart appears over the creature it's applied to. After they take enough steps or are otherwise killed the heart explodes and deals AE damage. So it's not actually the skeleton exploding (although that happens too) that's causing the blood effect, but the skill itself.

Magic skills can do magic things!? wuuuuUUUUUAAHHH?

No, I'm saying that the blood explosion is the AE damaging effect of the skill that occurs when the subject dies. It occurs along with the death effect of whatever it's applied to, and isn't an increase of their normal death effect. So skeleton, or bat, or apple*, or chair*, or rock man**, or forum poster*** a huge blood explosion is happening regardless because it's what the AE explosion looks like.

*Exploding Palm cannot be applied to inanimate objects/destructibles

** Rock man refers to a person who plays rock music and not a man made of rocks

*** Please oh please oh please

Before correcting himself(in the same thread) with this:

Julian just slapped me upside the head - so the Exploding Palm effect seen from the BlizzCon build and screenshots since is actually just the rare monster death effect (attached to Exploding Palm for time's sake), which is a huge bloody explosion. Which actually isn't supposed to be a huge bloody explosion either but a fire and lava explosion; but it has a ways to go to make it look like it. But anyway, Exploding Palm itself is getting a monster agnostic treatment so that it doesn't imply blood and guts and is also readable as its own effect during the chaos of battle.

So it won't be monster-specific, but it's also not going to look like a blood explosion which isn't a blood explosion.

Aight?

Of course these posts were made almost over a year and 1/2 ago while the video I linked was probably made some time between last blizzcon to maybe a week(If they were extremely lazy about it I guess.) before the Press Event(So about two months ago.)?

So take from that what you will.|||Thanks NobleNecro!
