The Monk Seems Un-Diabloish - Page 2

You seem un-Diabloish.

Seriously, what does that even mean? All pretense of a coherent Gothic horror theme vanished the second the first DII player set foot in Act II.|||Quote:

How dare your deserts have sand colored sand?

Bugs shooting rainbow lighting?

Obviously this is more Diablo-ish than a single melee char. |||Quote:

Atrav, im just saying when you look at the character selection screen on the d3 homepage the monk just looks out of place. When you look back at all the other characters from the past they had this idk how else to say it but this diablo-like look. The monk just doesn't have that look to me. He seems out of place, like he should be in a different game. Its kind of like throwing an Orc into the game, it just doesn't fit. For example, the assassin and the druid that they added to the d2 expansion fit perfectly into the game, they had the same look as the other characters and they all just blended. The monk just doesn't blend. Thats my opinion, but evidently no one else shares that opinion. lol

Not to put words in your mouth, but perhaps he just doesn't look enough european middle-age to you?

I felt the same thing about the Assassin in D2. It just didn't fit in with my view of what is "Diablo" from D1.|||A friar would have fit in more.|||As HappyAssassin was saying, I think it's very possible to have a Monk in the game and have Diablo III be more "diabloish" than... Diablo 2.

The trick to a horror setting, imho, has more to do with the setting and the enemies than the hero. That's because the hero is, almost definitively, something outside of the "diabloishness," coming in to clean it up. For example, it really didn't matter WHO was going into the dungeons in Diablo 1. The point was that it was a dark pit of death filled with demons. The dungeon and its inhabitants set the tone.

The same is true of Diablo 3. The less "silly" monsters it has, and the harder it tries to give a gothic horror feel to its environments, the better the tone of the game will be. If it's bright and colorful like World of Warcraft, that's what will be the failure. Whether we players beat up on demons with swords or spells or fists isn't really the issue here.|||if anything, the monk is more diablo'ish than the assassin or necromancer were... considering you are a hero trying to fight the demons of hell... the monk, who in short strives for peace and study and wisdom, just happens to kick *** cause the evil is abound, while the necromancer raised the dead (possibly evil?) and the assassin had all these 'flash' traps and didnt really 'sneak and assassinate' anything.|||UM...dun forget about the Diablo expansion that incorporated the monk.

So technically the monk is already diabloish.|||Quote:

That expansion doesn't count, as it was made by Sierra and Blizzard doesn't even see it as a Diablo Expansion.

Still, the monk does seem diabloish.|||Quote:

Uh, the nec fights for balance, and the demons just tipped the scales. He's out for blood.

The sin only exists to kill corrupted mages. Follow the corruption, and kill the demons doing so. She's also out for demons.

I'm not getting how these two are more undiablo-ish if they follow the same goal set.

I will vouch the sin couldn't really shine in the way d2 was designed. |||i think the monk is a good fit for diablo 3 pluss i think it back ups the barb
