Inspired by Hokuto No Ken ?

I have not been online for a while so sorry if I'm just repeating what others have already said here in the forums

.

But surely I can not be the only one finding this to be inspired by (a ripoff of) Hokuto No Ken / Fist of the Nort Star ?

This is how I see it.

1. The Monk looks a LOT like Ryuken (Kenshiro's trainer in his young days).

2. The mood of the trailer is a lot like every episode (city overrun, Kenshiro comes walking, sees the mayhem, finds it unacceptable and kills everyone with his fists)

3. He fights mainly with his body and not weapons.

4. He has a skill called "Way of the Hundred Fists". (At-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta Whasaaa!)

5. He has a skill called "Exploding Palm". (Omae wa mo shindeiru! *splat*)

... I mean ... COME ON! what a blatant rip off... still, I'm a HnK-fan so I just really really love it!

Will play this class the fist thing I do when I get my copy of the game! 8D

Also: If I had a twitter account i would suggest "Yuria's Retribution" or "Yuwa shock" as a name for a Unique Fist Weapon if that contest is still running.

What are your thoughts on the subject?|||Quote:

You think Blizzard even knows about that show?

1. He also looks like a normal monk to me.

2. Except the monk was lead to an already decimated city by a demon.

3. Fist weapons and staves. Also all monks in games are like this.

4. That doesn't really even resemble the name. Kind of like a dash and then using flurry of blows in D&D.

5. Which is like Quivering Palm in D&D.

Now if exploding palm used pressure points or the monk was running around punching like Kenshiro then you might have a point.|||Its not a rip off, he was just inspired by them, like you said.

HOKUTO NO KEN FTW!!!!|||Quote:

Perhaps not "Blizzard" as a whole. But I do not find it unlikely that some of the game makers who are working on an action game would come across other types of action filled media to be inspired by.

After all, eaven I know of the comic/show. ;-)

Yeah, you might be right, I might just be seeing what I want to be seeing.

Still love the class so far though. |||Quote:

I've known quite a few artsy people, not like Jackson Pollock artsy, and I'd actually be surprised if they haven't heard of Fist of the North Star. I haven't watched an anime since I was 14, and then it was before the internet got super popular so I only had access to Dragonball Z, and I've heard of it. Granted, I only know it by its English name. So the odds of someone saying "we need a monk!" and one or more of the concept artists shelling out a couple or more of Fist of the North Star inspired characters seems pretty good.

That being said, he does look similar to this Ryuken guy, but in the same respect, the Ryuken guy doesn't really stand out from any other monk. In fact, I could compare both of them to monk Gyatso from Avatar.

That might also be saying something if you can defend the character being a ripoff by pointing out how generic the design is.|||But wasn't Avatar created around 2005?

And HnK was created around 1983 or something?

But yeah, I get the drift, those monks (Avatar and HnK) were inspired by older depictions of monks in turn.

Oooh! Oooh! Silly joke from my girlfriend right now regard the Beard-threads about the monk!

Sofie: "Ken, the Great Bear(d) Fist". 8D

(trivia: Hokuto no ken / Fist of the North Star is also known as "Ken, the Great Bear Fist")|||The combination of hands and beards only reminds me of that creepy Skittles commercial.|||Had no idea what Skittles were so i had to Google it.

Found the commercial you spoke of on YouTube. Yeah, pretty creepy. =/
