The Monk Seems Un-Diabloish - Page 3

I agree with you, Prode. The Monks is not Diabloish. The Athmosphere you're trying to explain, in which he Doesn't Fit in is Gothic. Diablo is Gothic and that's the way it should be. That's Diabloish. Diablo 3 isn't much of Diabloish ...|||Quote:

O.o Monks work well in a Gothic fantasy.|||He is a holy warrior, why would he wear dark clothes? The monk is like the Pally, did you think he didn't fit just because his outfit wasn't dark? Another thing is, a character doesn't need to be European to fit in. If you don't think the monk fits I am sure you don't think the brightly colored WD fits either.

And please the game isn't Gothic fiction/fantasy. You kids now a day’s think anything that’s dark is Gothic. Gothic fiction has romance in them, where in any Diablo game do you find romance? The first Diablo had a Gothic art style because it was set in one town that had that kind of architecture. In Diablo 2 you went around the world and there was a lot of non Gothic architecture but a lot of you seem to miss that part of how “un-Diablo” (by what your standers of what Diablo should be) the second game was compared to the first.|||Quote:

Monks may fit well in Gothic fantasy but not DIII's Clown Monk, please ...

You don't know D2LoD too well. In a conversation with the Amazon, Larzuk proposes her they both to move to her 'beautiful islands'.|||Quote:

It takes a more then one obscure line (that most people have never even known about) to make it Gothic fiction.

If you look I already hinted at the line you pointed out in the history of my Myrmidon class http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=740955|||The Monk was definitely surprising to me, but I was pretty sure we were gonna see some sort of high physical damage melee character with less survivability than the barb. I was picturing something more like a rogue, bard, thief or even a revamped assassin, but there it is.

The Monks roots stem from DnD, so it really can't be all that out of place, since Diablo is an ARPG that uses many DnD skills, classes and mechanics.|||geez....blizz decided to make the monk. diablo and the world of sanctuary are blizz's intellectual property....they can damn well make the monk 'diabloish' if they wanted to. does gothic fantasy make people think of saharan desert tombs? how about a wet tropical jungle?? mayan/aztec ruins?? no! but blizz made them 'diabloish'.|||You guys are completely mis-interpreting what i said. I said that the LOOK of the monk didnt fit, i said i liked the idea and playstyle and everything i just thought the LOOK of him was weird. Go to the D3 official website character screen and tell me the monk doesnt just POP out at you. The other 3 blend together and look good together. The monk doesn't, and that may just be my opinion.|||Quote:

Nothing about him makes me think clown. O.o|||I see the monk as the spiritual successor of the D2 Assassin. Supernaturally powered martial arts.
