what will the monk have instead of a mana bar

we all know the barb has fury instead of mana so what about the monk|||I don't see the point in the poll. Besides this being more appropriate for the Monk forum (where I'm going to move it), and #3 not making sense as it's worded, who cares what the Monk's version of mana is called? What's interesting, to me at least, is how it'll work. If Bliz came out tomorrow and said, "The Monk has chi instead of mana." what would that tell us? Nothing. The question is how it'll work; what sort of play style it will be designed to enhance or promote.

And this is, not coincidentally, what I asked Jay Wilson in our recent interview. Of course he said it's too soon to comment on what the Monk will have, but that's why we make forum threads like this one, so debate the topic.|||So instead of mana, one option is to have mana... I'm afraid you lost me on that one.|||Apple juice|||Abnormal red mana.|||Manjana manjana.|||I agree with Flux, the name doesn't matter. Blizzard would probably give it an oriental name regardless of what it actually was.

I remember Jay Wilson mentioning (when asked about the Wizard's resource system) that the Monk's resource is actually much further along (than the Wizard's). He said that the Monk's resource just "fell into place", and that it was very fitting for this type of character.

Also note that the Barbarian's resource system, for example, was designed in a way so as to influence the way he would be played. We can conclude that the Monk's resource system will encourage a play-style fitting for him (combos, fast attacks, etc.).

Based on the above information, here is my guess as to what it would be:

  1. Hierarchy based. "Lesser" combos don't require resources. The Monk opens up "Higher" combos by using the "Lesser" combos. (Like the Assassin's charge up skills.)

  2. "Balance" based. The monk might be required to balance his strategy. Acting too aggressively might start to disable him somewhat (to stop players from spamming skills like exploding palm, etc.), while acting too defensively would likewise start to disable the monk (preventing him from spamming impenetrable defense etc.). In this case the monk normally has a full resource pool, but he starts to disable himself (lose energy) if he does too much of one thing. (I think this is the most likely of the three).

  3. Skill based. The Monk has skills that influence how his pool works. The player can choose passive skills that cause the Monk's resource pool to favor certain styles of play. This allows for more customization. (I doubt this would be used, but it is an interesting idea.)

Of course, this is all just speculation anyway.|||Hmm, now i could name my upcoming monk "ZenMaster"|||he seems to be straight melee, so im thinking something like energy.|||Im thinking focus , or some kind of combo related energy source.
