Female Monk = Nun/Priestess? - Page 2

Quote:

It is.

It doesn't really matter, it's a fantasy game so if they want female monks they can but technically monks are male, as amazons are female, as freezing arrow said.

I think the styling of the monk can easily translate to a female. I'm not sure if Blizzard have the stones to make her bald but I think she would look good. I'll stick my neck out and suggest they'll be losing the beard for the female version.

Check out the Guild Wars monks, the females can be bald, or have hairstyles which reveal their scalp tattoo, it's pretty cool.

Also a female buddhist monk is called a Nun.|||Female monk = Chun-Li |||You guys are looking at this in the wrong context. You guys need to see the Monk in the perspective of the game world with its own story line. If you read the Amazon bio from D2, it clearly states that there are male amazons, but the women are the ones that do the fighting. "Amazon" is more of a culture in the Diablo world than a term of fighting women. I imagine "Monk" is of the same vein.|||Theres a south korean female monk in my english class in college.|||Freezing arrow and Elly, in the Amazon lore it says that the Amazons are both girls and guys, but only the girls fight, the guys do other things, it says.

"In the Amazon culture, only the women serve as warriors, their intrinsic superior dexterity and lithe body sturctures are better suited to combat in the dense rainforest environs of the islands. Their society is far from stratified however, as men are responsible for any number of positions in the community, government, and clergy, as well as merchant and agricultural occupations."

so i guess if they wanted to make a male amazon they could, just like the could make a female monk.|||Quote:

Because the term "monk" applies only to males. :/

Making a female monk would be like making a male amazon. It works, but it wouldn't made sense. D:

And how would she dress like? o.o;

That's almost as bad as naming someone a barbarian.

Because the term "barbarian" applies only to those outside of Greece. :/

That's almost as bad as naming someone a necromancer.

Because the term "necromancer" applies to someone who uses divination of the dead to foretell the future.

That's almost as bad as naming someone a druid.

Because the term "druid" applies to the priest-cast of ancient Celtic civilisation.

That's almost as bad as naming somone a paladin.

Because the term "paladin" applies only to "the foremost warriors of Charlemagne's court".

That's almost as bad as naming somone an assassin.

Because the term "assassin" applies only to a member of 'the Order of the Assassins' from ancient times.

That's almost as bad as naming somone an amazon.

Because the term "amazon" applies only to a mythological race of warrior women from ancient Greece.

Sorceress... Mhe...

Well... It seems clear that the words within the Diablo Universe have a slightly different meaning to the same words outside it... It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to name female monks monks...

(of course I took the liberty to look at original meanings of words, and not what time, or fantasy story telling, has done to them..., but the essence remains the same)|||http://forums.battle.net/thread.html...78691&sid=3000

Looks like that the female monk will roll with a Pixie haircut.
