Now I can't site this anywhere, as I read it so long ago. But I thought somewhere along the way, the devs mentioned that they are trying to get away from the ubiquitous RPG role-characters (i.e. tank, caster, support). Again, I can't prove it, but it seems to be happening, as I see the barbarian develop and notice the lack of a strictly support character.
Granted, the wizard seems to be a caster to me (weird, I know) but I'm hoping the devs haven't shown us everything. I hope they challenge themselves by making some less cookie-cutter builds available, a la a viable melee-wiz. I wouldn't play him/her, but the potential would be refreshing.
I suppose that whole rant was a little OT for the monk, but as the question was riased as to the barb's tanking ability, I quess I'm within my rights. I'm excited to see something that's at least new to the Diablo canon. I don't play many other RPGs so the idea of a monk is nice (never palyed Hellfire, which, as I understand it, was unsanctioned by blizzard).
$.02
-d|||2..^^ thats it|||8/10 assuming the combo system works great.|||7-8
The reason it is not like a 9 or 10 is because we don't have a full skill tree yet.|||Kinda get an assassin-vibe from the monk, except for all the coolness of the assassin
4.|||7.5/10- It's hard to judge the class when we still know so little about it. I like the idea of a fast melee class, but I'm worried about how he will stack up to the barbarian when the game is finally released. That said, I am very excited about trying out the monk!|||1/10. Greatly disappointed.
I like the Monk class (much better than something lame like Knight or Paladin...), but the character design and skills disappointed me.
The character looks really bad and unattractive.
The skills, oh lol, a fragile squishy frontliner. Suuuuuure, he "owns" at the beta demonstrations and stuff, let's just wait until Hell-like difficulties and skill nerfs and see where he goes. Martial Arts Assassin anyone? I hope Blizz can balance D3 better than D2 in this aspect, but overall in games, squishy classes in melee = pwned.|||Quote:

Monks are the opposite of squishy. O.o
Presumably, he's the toughest char.|||i was boaed so i averaged it out and over all we gave the monk an 8.02, i did take all number above 10 and marked them down to 10.
monk get 8/10 )|||8/10 for mine. Looks like a mixture of a Pally and Assassin, looks very interesting. I cant wait to try him out when the game releases (whenever the hell that is ).
