New Monk skill animations

[:1]

The Monk skills and runestone effects seen in this video. This list is tentative since so many of the Monk skills have never been seen.
 • 0:02-0:05 -- A combo skill right at the start. Probably this is a runestone'd version of Fists of Thunder..

 • 0:06-0:08 -- Another combo with two claw swipes before an engulfing swirling rune effect surrounds the Monk on the third hit. Never before seen; possibly a rune effect in Crippling Wave.

 • 0:10 - 0:12 -- Dashing movement skill. Could be the basic Tempest Rush.

 • 0:14 - 0:18 -- Seven Sided Strike. Probably this is the default, but the skill hasn't been seen since 2009 so it might be a runestone effect.

 • 0:19 -- A green nova-type blast of light. Perhaps a runestoned version of Blinding Flash.

 • 0:24 - 0:28 -- A combo skill that deals three green spell effects that reach much more than melee range. Probably a runestone in Deadly Reach.

 • 0:29 - 0:33 -- Way of the Hundred Fists has new graphics. Note the punch delivered while holding a staff.

 • 0:34 - 0:37 -- The "create a huge temple bell, then punch it into a projectile" was initially said to be a runestone effect in Wave of Light. In this version the bell is dropped, then rung, knocking back nearby enemies. It's seen in use against some Goatmen in the recent b-roll movie.

 • 0:38 -- Another combo skill; commenters plausibly (since it's the least visually-impressive combo) suggest Exploding Palm.

 • 0:39 - 0:50 -- Never before seen skill. This is probably Tempest Rush (though possibly a rune effect of Wave of Light), as the Monk runs along, spinning a spectral staff before her. It looks kind of like Whirlwind in its likely function.

|||Bruce Lee would be proud. Stunning moves and beautifully proportioned armor.|||I am sad Panda. Why holster the staff to pull out another staff for Templar Rush? Also, why swing around the staff and then instead of using the staff, she punches the bell?

Oh and MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I think it is becoming more and more clear that Wave of Light that was shown in Blizzcon 2010(you know the skill that has the bell.) is the skill's base form. Considering that we saw the skill again in the Press Event Beta Video(where the bell knock back the goats and so was probably a rune version.), and now we see it here(Doing whatever it is supposed to be doing, but still has the bell in it.).|||I have to admit, Blizzard has done a good job with the monk animations. The martial moves themselves are well done, but combined with spell-like effects that rival the wizard in attractiveness and uniqueness, and every new video gets me more excited to try out this class.

I might have to pull out D2 and start a new assassin to get a fix, and hope I get a beta invite.|||Would 'Tempest Rush' possibly be a reintroduction of a moving form of inpenetrable defense? Doesnt look like too many projectiles would get through that, plus damage when you come in contact with enemies.|||Jay descried Templar Rush with the words like "The Monk rushes forward while swinging his staff, knocking back enemies and slowing them some."

So probably not, maybe you can hope for a rune version to do that.|||I am personally very impressed with the direction they are taking with the monk's effects. I mean, its got to be hard as hell to actually come up with all those runestone effects for combo skills.

On top of that, I can only assume that the monk will have the highest skill cap in the game, making him super hard to master, which is why I am drawn to him as being my first and only character until I hit 60.|||Flux...

This is a lie. You will not find them saying anything about it being a rune version of Wave of Light. I can guarantee it. People just started saying it because, 1. It didn't match the description of the skill which isn't that big of a deal since several trait's descriptions were off as well, and 2. They didn't like the bell.|||Blizzard always surprises,i like.

Beta Monk

Most people don't even realize that two of these "orb protection" skills exist. They see the Monk in a bubble and say "OMG IMPENATRABLE DEFENCE," when in actuality:

Impenetrable Defense is where the monk spins his staff around, creating a purple sphere akin to Slow Time, and deflects only projectiles. If a big melee attacker, such as a Fallen Overseer, comes up to you, as long as his weapon range is long enough, you can be hit. In contrast, a tiny Fallen Imp would be stopped at the edge of the sphere and could not hit you.

Inner Sanctuary is a another sphere, with a more golden/airy feel to it. In this skill, the monk bows down slightly, closes his eyes in deep thought, and forms his hands into a prayer. In this case, he his invulnerable to all damage for 6 seconds. You can see the Monk use this skill in the Monk Gameplay trailer, but with a view from inside the sphere it creates, so you cannot see the actual sphere itself.

As with both of these skills, any monsters that could possibly be trapped inside the spheres are pushed out upon activation of the skill and creation of the sphere.|||sweet information i hope get some more news about the other skills for the monk soon|||Quote:

I hope too, but don't hold your breath. We got 11 WD skills at Blizzcon 2008, and nothing more until the full trees this year, 10 months later. I don't expect that we'll see much more in the way of detailed skill info until Blizzcon 2010.|||im really feelin the monk and i love things that are "asiany" but im not sure seeing how i have always played the barb or druid i would totally have to change my gameplay styles but should be fun
